Why 50 Cent was beefing with Lil Wayne
50 Cent has been a thorn in the side of many MCs, and he is known for ruffling feathers. When he first came on the scene, aside from DMX, he was one of the most aggressive, vicious rappers, and before he signed with Shady Records in 2002, the Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ creator had made many enemies in the streets of New York.
50 Cent has had feuds with everybody in hip-hop and has dissed a long list of artists. From Fat Joe and Ja Rule to Rick Ross, The Game, and Jadakiss, the emcee (real name Curtis Jackson) relished the opportunity to start a conflict.
Although 50 Cent does most of his taunting online nowadays, in the past, he has blasted a lot of his peers through his music. However, during an interview with HOT 97.0’s Funkmaster Flex, Jackson aimed at Lil Wayne, who he is very similar to concerning their career journies.
Both artists had an extensive mixtape run on the underground, which spawned many amazing projects that are cherished to this day. Also, both MCs broke out around the turn of the millennium and exploded in the early-2000s.
That said, they are far from friends, and during his interview with Funk Flex, 50 Cent revealed he didn’t like Lil Wayne’s ubiquity and presence on tracks where he doesn’t fit. Speaking about the star, Jackson compared Lil Wayne’s rap services to prostitution, stating, “A whore sleeps with whoever will pay ’em. So we gotta call him a whore if he’ll just go with whoever pay him to be on their records.”
The ‘In Da Club’ emcee continued, “He makes those records good. It’s just that he works with anybody. You gotta kinda make it an event.” In his 2007 track ‘Part-Time Lover’, 50 Cent dissed Lil Wayne and Birdman, rapping, “You make me wanna kiss you like Baby kiss Wayne and make you call me daddy like Baby do Wayne / Damn that shit sounds gay, it’s insane; I guess that’s the price the lil’ nigga pays for fame”
The following year, Lil Wayne released ‘Louisianimal’. During the track, Weezy sends shots to 50 Cent, rhyming, “All about a dollar, fuck two quarters / Bitch I’ll pour syrup in that Vitamin Water; I hope you die ugly and tonight will be gorgeous” He also aimed at Jackson on ‘Let’s Talk Money’ featuring Pimp C, on which he rapped, “That nigga Pimp called me before he left this bitch; Told me keep doin’ ya thing and don’t tell 50 shit.”
Although the origin of the two MCs’ beef is unclear, 50 Cent like to taunt but was evidently unimpressed by the way Lil Wayne just worked with anyone who approached him.
