Given a chance to perform in front of your idol is a golden opportunity few fans are afforded. Getting to have two minutes with the rapper, producer, and entrepreneur, Kanye West, is nigh-on impossible. However, one lucky fan got to do just that when he gathered up the courage to lay down some bars for Ye in the middle of the street.
Digging into the archives, we’re excited to share with you the brilliant video of a fan rapping for his hip hop hero, Kanye West. Perhaps even stranger is that this isn’t a single event, but something Ye has dealt with on at least two occasions.
Leaving a restaurant in New York this year, Kanye West was met with the usual flash of bulbs and the hum of paparazzi as everybody clamoured to get a shot of a walking icon. West has undoubtedly transcended the realms of being a rap star and is now recognised as a global figure of interest. It means wherever he goes, he is followed by hoards of onlookers. But while others stand and stare, a rapper named Loner saw his opportunity.
Working alongside a cameraman, Loner approached Ye with respect as others jumped on the star for a picture. It soon became apparent that Loner wasn’t looking for an autograph, but a co-sign as he began delivering bar on bar of pure fire. Ye was suitably impressed and started bopping along to the lyrics, even throwing in his own ad-libs.
“Tell ’em what’s your name? What’s your name,” the DONDA rapper shouted “Give ’em your Instagram! Give ’em your Instagram!” He proclaimed to the camera filming their exchange. It’s not the only time that Ye has found a potentially potent rapper on the streets. In 2015, with an exchange caught by TMZ, a rapper delivered a freestyle so strong he stopped West in his tracks.
Ye was out with his friend Justin Bieber when he was approached by a rapper named Cam Gray, who jumped on an acapella freestyle for Ye after failing to give him a demo tape. After a few stutters, Ye is suitably impressed and even hints at a potential deal for the young chance. Of course, not much happened after this video for Gray; however, there’s a joyfulness to the footage that has to be witnessed.
