Nicki Minaj is somebody who polarises those in the hip hop community, but the numbers don’t lie, and she’s one of the most decorated rappers on the planet. If anybody remains unconvinced by that, perhaps this freestyle will change your mind.
She recently earnt her 26th number one track on the US iTunes Chart with ‘Blick Blick’, which saw her overtake Drake as the rapper to have topped the chart on the most occasions. Minaj is an unstoppable force capable of achieving mammoth commercial success, but when she wants to, she can still go hard on the mic.
It’s been 15 years since she won her first record deal, which was intended to only be a six-month contract, but Minaj took that opportunity with both hands and has never looked back since.
Minaj’s career has been soaked in controversy, and she’s never been shy to say something outrageous. One drawback of this trait that often lands her in hot water and distracts from her immense talent, but this freestyle is a reminder of what a menace Minaj can be.
She was given the opportunity to show off this skill set during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in 2019. The comedian Fallon used a word generator to choose three random nouns, which Minaj was then tasked with turning into a freestyle.
Unfortunately, Minaj was given a challenge with Fallon making her squeeze ‘hexagon’, ‘yeti’ and ‘edible arrangement’ into the rap. Somehow, she made it work and turned those three words into something brilliant.
“Six sides, That’s a hexagon, I’m the big homie, Megatron,” she began. “These girls can’t see me like the Yeti, All these girls gassed like Getty.”
Minaj added: “I am Ms. Petty, And it’s going down, basement, I be like ‘Eat it, eat it, eat it,’ edible arrangement.”
