Watch Fugees perform ‘Ready Or Not’ for the first time in 15 years

Iconic hip hop trio Fugees reunited for a glamorous pop-up show in New York last week as part of the Global Citizen Live event. The massively popular and influential group made up of Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel, announced last week that they would be reuniting for a 2021 world tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of their classic 1996 album The Score.

Playing at the Rooftop at Pier 17 venue in New York last week, their performance was broadcast on Saturday, September 25, as part of the 24-hour Global Citizen Live event.

The charity event aims to “unite the world to defend the planet and defeat poverty” and took place in numerous countries across the world. Fugees’ mammoth tour will kick off at the onset of November in Chicago. There is also a show at London’s O2 scheduled for 6th December before the tour finishes up at TBC venues in Nigeria and Ghana.

Reflecting on the group’s reunion, Hill explained that the group have “a complicated but beautiful history.”

Earlier this week in a different statement, she said: “The Fugees have a complex but impactful history. I decided to honour this significant project, its anniversary, and the fans who appreciated the music by creating a peaceful platform where we could unite, perform the music we loved, and set an example of reconciliation for the world.”

Wyclef Jean expanded: “As I celebrate twenty-five years with the Fugees, my first memory was that we vowed, from the gate, we would not just do music, we would be a movement”. He also added. “We would be a voice for the unheard, and in these challenging times, I am grateful once again, that God has brought us together.”

Meanwhile, at other points across the New York edition of Global Citizen Live, Coldplay headlined, and were joined by both Billie Eilish and Finneas to deliver a rendition of ‘Fix You’.

In what was a star-studded event, New Zealand pop heroine Lorde kick off proceedings performing her hit single, the title track from her new album Solar Power, which delivered a stark environmental message, echoing the event’s ethos.
