According to the BBC, 48-year-old Watkins was jailed in 2013 and sentenced to 29 years for 13 child sex offences. He faced a further six years on licence if he was ever released.

Sky News reported that Badzak and a 16-year-old were walking back from Waitrose when the incident occurred in Kilburn. Badzak was stabbed repeatedly, while the teenager managed to escape to a nearby supermarket for help.
