Tyler The Creator goes on a rampage against MCs who “copy” styles

CHROMAKOPIA creator Tyler The Creator is currently on the North American leg of his tour. Following the release of his eighth studio album, the Ladeira Heights rapper is on a high from the reception of his artistry.

Of course, the Odd Future founder has trolled and taunted some of his peers over the years. Still, on a more serious note, he has recently attacked those who he believes are using hip-hop as a money grab with no love for the culture.

The ‘Yonkers’ rhymer recently caught up with the iconic journalist Nardwuar and while speaking with the character he sought to reaffirm his authenticity as a musician and reassured his fans he has a true love for hip-hop culture and music.

Speaking about himself, his brand and his music, Tyler told Nardwuar, “I am rap. I am hip-hop. That’s all I know. It’s in the house.” However, he then quickly turned on those who he believes are fake, stating, “Some of these folks look at this like a quick money-getting thing.”

He continued, “Y’all ain’t grow up the same.” Tyler told Nardwuar that real rappers create, and everyone then fakers go on to emulate their style and music, asserting, “We the coolest ever and all these motherfucckers wanna copy us.”

Detailing why he believes some people copy instead of producing original material, the Flower Boy icon explained, “Some n**gas be mimicking and mocking ’cause they ain’t got the juice,” adding, “They don’t really believe it [in their heart].”

Tyler The Creator that sometimes these MCs become successful but don’t last and insisted that he has faith the fans can tell the difference between an imitation and the real thing. In fact, he even told Nardwuar that he sees it, stating, “You can see it, man. They look at it as a commodity just to criticize it. Y’all ain’t grow up the same.”

The California emcee has previously attacked Dallas-based, privately educated rapper Ian. During an interview on SpringHill, Tyler The Creator lambasted Ian’s rise, declaring, “There’s this kid right now. This white kid, regular Caucasian man, and he’s like mocking Future and Gucci Mane, like rap music… It’s not even like satire, it’s like, ‘I’m just joking, I’m just mocking it.'”

Ian hit back to Tyler in a Lyrical Lemonade freestyle, but many still sided with the more established and respected IGOR rapper.
