Tyler, The Creator cancels huge headline shows
Tyler, The Creator will no longer headline Outside Lands and Lollapalooza this year.
Alongside Hozier, Tyler was set to headline the first day of the Chicago-based festival Lollapalooza on Thursday, 1st August. He also planned to play a headline set at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park for Outside Lands, which takes place the following weekend.
Now, Tyler has announced his decision to pull out of both festivals. He took to X to share the news of the cancellation, beginning, “I hate saying this but I have to cancel Lollapalooza and outside lands. I made a commitment that I can no longer keep, and that bums me out knowing how excited folks were.”
“That is not sexy at all,” he continued, “Please please forgive me or call me names when you see me in person. Love.”
Both festivals also took to social media to share the news, and to announce replacement acts. Lollapalooza have pulled in Megan Thee Stallion for a headline slot, promising a “Hot girl summer in Chicago.” Hozier will still headline the first day alongside Stallion.
The Lollapalooza lineup also features Grammy award-winning R&B songwriter SZA, who will headline on Friday, while Future x Metro Boomin and The Killers will cap off Saturday evening. Pop-punk staples Blink-182, and alternative artist Melanie Martinez will take on the final headline slots on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Outside Lands have recruited popstar Sabrina Carpenter for a Saturday evening set in Tyler’s absence, citing “personal reasons” for his decision to cancel the set. Carpenter has taken the airwaves by storm recently with her mammoth single ‘Espresso’ and follow-up track ‘Please Please Please’, which stars actor Barry Keoghan in a dramatic accompanying music video.
The Killers will also appear at Outside Lands, headlining the Friday, while Sturgill Simpson is the biggest name on the Sunday. Elsewhere, the lineup features ‘Water’ singer Tyla, budding pop icon Chappell Roan, and legendary producer KAYTRANADA.
With the cancellation of his appearances at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands, it seems that Tyler’s performance at Coachella back in April may mark his only festival outing over the summer. However, he is currently still set to headline Austin City Limits when it returns later this year, alongside performances from Dua Lipa, Reneé Rapp, Leon Bridges and more.
