Tyler, The Creator reveals his 10 favourite movies of all time
Tyler, The Creator opened up about his 10 favourite movies of all time during a recent interview.
The rapper makes his acting debut in Marty Supreme alongside Timothée Chalamet, which will hit cinemas on December 25th.
Sitting down with A24 and Letterboxd, Tyler ran through some of the best films he’s seen in his lifetime.
Starting off with his all-time favourite, he said, “My favourite movie is Napoleon Dynamite. That movie has my heart. I didn’t see it in theatres, but my mother got it for me on DVD. I would always watch it on my sister’s Hello Kitty television that had the connected DVD player.”
Another movie on his list is The Wood, which was released in the late 1990s, and he has a special connection to it.
“One of my favourite coming-of-age movies, or movies in general, is The Wood,” he said. “Big Rick [Famuyiwa] directed it. Genius, right. This movie is partly very special to me because they filmed it in my cafeteria in La Tijera when I went there in third grade … It has a warmth to it, and it has heart.”
Last but not least, Tyler highlighted Matilda and how much the main character impacted viewers.
“Matilda, what are we talking about? Danny DeVito directed that,” he said. “I mean, we needed more of that. Matilda was the oddball in her family – super smart, made education look so ill. Do you know how many people felt that?”
His upcoming movie, Marty Supreme, is directed by Josh Safdie and also stars Gwyneth Paltrow.
