Tupac to be honoured with a star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Legendary Death Row rapper Tupac Shakur will now have a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Having already been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, the emcee will now be memorialised alongside the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. This follows a big push by the hip-hop community to have the lyricist permanently identified as a culturally significant figure who impacted pop culture on a worldwide scale.

The ceremony will take place on June 7th, and his star will be unveiled by the iconic West Coast radio legend Big Boy and Pac’s sister Sekyiwa Shakur.

As well as being a musician, Shakur was a renowned actor and political activist who was pushing for change before he was killed in a drive-by shooting following a Mike Tyson fight on September 7th, 1996. Ana Martine of the Hollywood Walk Of Fame stated, “This iconic artist has continued to be part of the zeitgeist for decades after his passing and will continue to be an important cultural figure for many years to come. Surely, as one of LA’s own, Tupac’s star will be added to the list of most visited stars.”

His impact has not just been recognised by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce but also by Oakland council member Carroll Fife who has recently revealed that a street will now be named after the performer.

Although 2pac moved around a lot, he claimed Oakland as the area he represented, where he learnt what he called “the game.” It’s also here his career began as a member of Digital Underground. The official statement from Oakland City Council read, “Tupac Shakur’s legacy will continue through his contributions in art and social outreach, through his family and fans, touching countless lives of children and elders over the years while alive and after his death, taken too young by gun violence.”

A portion of MacArthur Boulevard will soon be known as ‘Tupac Shakur Way’
