Tupac Shakur murder suspect receives sentence over jail fight
Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis is currently behind bars awaiting his murder trial for the death of Tupac Shakur and has now been sentenced for a separate incident in jail.
On September 2nd, Clark County District Court Judge Nadia Krall sentenced Davis to between 16 and 40 months in prison. He was convicted of battery by a prisoner regarding an incident that took place in December 2024.
Davis claims he’s innocent and was acting in self-defence, alleging Rochlan Hamilton instigated the fight. The jury was shown footage of the fight, which involved Davis walking past the inmate in a common area before an altercation occurred.
Addressing the incident in recorded phone calls, Davis said, “I get dirty, dude,” and “dog handles his business.”
According to Courthouse News Service, he claimed a juror’s misconduct deprived him of a fair trial. His son and a Tupac documentarian alleged they heard someone in a hallway say, “A little man in a jailhouse fight must work harder to maintain his reputation.”
Despite their testimonies, all 13 jurors and alternates stated that they never spoke about the case outside of deliberations.
Davis’ lawyer, Carl Arnold, claimed he was attacked first and “acted solely in self-defence” while alleging “glaring security failures” at the prison. “The inmate who attacked Mr Davis was unsupervised and placed in his direct path during escort, despite Mr Davis being housed in a high-security unit due to his status as a high-profile detainee,” he said.
The man accused of masterminding Tupac’s death pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, with his trial scheduled to begin in February 2026. The trial was set to take place in March 2025, but was delayed after the defence team requested more time to interview witnesses.
