Trey Songz wins request to have $11million battery lawsuit judgement dismissed
Trey Songz (real name Tremaine Neverson) has succeeded in his attempt to have his $11 million battery lawsuit judgement dismissed by the judge. In doing so, Clark County District Court Judge Jacob Reynolds has given the singer’s legal team 30 days to respond to the lawsuit that was originally filed against him.
Tyrelle Dunn claimed Songz and his security guards attacked him after trying to rescue his wife, who was allegedly being held against her will at The Cosmopolitan in Vegas on November 28th, 2021. Songz said he wasn’t aware that a lawsuit was filed against him, despite various news stories about the lawsuit and a reporter reaching out to an attorney who represented the singer over a year ago.
According to 8 News Now, Dunn’s attorneys claim Songz was served through guards at his home, while the singer’s attorneys argue that it wasn’t properly issued under Nevada or California law. Not only that, but Songz has also denied the allegations altogether.
“[Songz] did not know about this lawsuit until November 27th, 2024, when he received Instagram messages from fans extending their support after news broke about Dunn’s default judgement,” Songz’s motion read.
“[Songz] deserves to have his day in court to defend himself, rather than being subjected to a massive default judgement which was improperly obtained in an underlying case that [Songz] knew nothing about until a week before filing this motion.”
Reynolds ordered the $11.2 million default judgement on October 10th, which included nearly $28,000 for medical expenses, $5 million for pain and suffering, $5 million for punitive damages, and $1.2 million for prejudgement interest.
In a statement, Dunn’s attorney, Craig Drummond, said, “While we had hoped that the judgement would stand, we respect the court’s decision and look forward to conducting discovery regarding Mr. Songz and the security personnel who attacked my client.
“We plan to zealously move this case forward and will move to bring in all of the security entourage as Defendants once Mr. Songz produces their names and addresses.”
Songz released his last album Back Home through Atlantic Records in 2020, peaking at number 15 on the Billboard 200 with features from Ty Dolla $ign, Swae Lee, Summer Walker and Davido.
