Tray Savage murder suspect sentenced to 29 years in prison
Chicago rapper Tray Savage (real name Kentray Young) was shot and killed in 2020. Over five years later, a man has pleaded guilty to his murder.
The 26-year-old associate of Chief Keef lost his life in the Chatman neighbourhood of Chicago on June 19th, 2020. Demitri Jackson was charged with his murder.
According to ABC7 Chicago, Jackson pleaded guilty on November 5th and was sentenced to 29 years behind bars.
In April 2021, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Jackson was extradited to Chicago from Texas. Investigators claimed he was the gunman in security footage that allegedly showed him walking with a limp before and after killing Savage.
Prosecutors said Jackson and Young were affiliated with the same gang and spoke before the shooting took place in the 8100 block of South Evans Avenue.
After an initial interaction, Jackson was accused of coming back in a car and speaking to Young, who was sitting in a vehicle with his girlfriend. Then, Jackson allegedly moved his car into the middle of the street before getting out and shooting Young in the neck and shoulder.
Young allegedly crashed into a parked car and later died at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Meanwhile, Jackson sped off in a white Mazda, which police found set on fire the next day.
Savage was signed to Keef’s Glo Gang label. His biggest YouTube videos include ‘Got the Mac’ with 668,000 views and ‘Faces’ with 653,000 views.
His 2013 collaboration with Keef, ‘Chiefin Keef’, which appeared on his Bang Part 2 mixtape, has over 4.7 million views.
In his verse, Savage raps, “I be with some killers and them n*ggas smoke the loudest weed/ They got a lotta guns, they blow you down for me/ They rob yo’ ass, they find you got some pounds of weed/ Shoot a n*gga up, he can’t get down with me.”
