Travis Scott sets new record for touring

Travis Scott has reportedly surpassed Kendrick Lamar’s tour earnings to set the record for the highest-selling tour by a solo rapper. The tour saw La Flame on the road over the course of a year in support of his chart-topping Utopia album.

According to Billboard, the Houston rapper’s Circus Maximus Tour grossed almost $210million across 1.7million tickets. The tour kicked off in October 2023 and came to an end in October 2024, with shows taking place in North America, South America, Europe and Oceania.

The record was previously held by Kendrick Lamar’s Big Steppers Tour, which earned $110million. However, the overall record for rap tours is still held by Drake, J Cole and 21 Savage, with the co-headlining It’s All a Blur Tour grossing $320million throughout 2023 and 2024.

The Circus Maximus Tour consisted of 78 shows, with supporting acts including Teezo Touchdown, Don Toliver, Sheck Wes, Veeze, Skilla Baby, Babyface Ray, Yung Lean, Pablo Chill-E, Lomiiel and Triple H. It served as Travis Scott’s first tour in nearly five years, following the Astroworld – Wish You Were Here Tour across 2018 and 2019.

Off the back of supporting Kendrick Lamar on The DAMN. Tour, Travis Scott stated that he would never do a tour with seats again, apparently aiming to change the way he delivers his live shows. Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2017, his manager David Stromberg claimed that the energy of the crowd had been “a little strange,” putting it down to the venues having seats.

“I mean, Travis brings the energy, but there’s been seating at every show,” he said at the time with a hefty dose of snark. “He wants to get his fans onstage and get them to stage-dive – but there’s chairs. It’s a numbers thing – I think you can sell more tickets when you do seats than when you do general admission. Travis’ fans are a little younger. Kendrick’s are a little older, and they’re here for ‘real hip-hop.’’”

Travis Scott released his Utopia album in July 2023 with features from Drake, 21 Savage, Playboi Carti, The Weeknd, Young Thug, Future, Kid Cudi and many others. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 496,000 units in its first week.
