Tory Lanez sues California prison system for $100 million over stabbing

Tory Lanez is suing the California Department of Corrections and a corrections officer over his stabbing last year.

The Canadian rapper was stabbed and rushed to the hospital in May 2025 after being attacked by a fellow inmate.

In the lawsuit filed in federal court on April 14th, he sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress, neglect, and failure to protect, asking for $100 million in damages.

Lanez says he was stabbed “approximately 16 times” during the incident, resulting in wounds to his back, torso, face, and head.

He was left in critical condition, suffering from two collapsed lungs. Lanez was placed on a ventilator at Kern Medical Center before being moved to California Men’s Colony.

According to Pitchfork, the rapper claims the prison system and a warden purposely put him in a housing unit with Santino Casio, a man serving a life sentence for second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder for the murder of a 13-year-old.

The lawsuit reads, “Despite Casio’s classification as a maximum-security violent predator and [Lanez’] high-profile celebrity status, which makes him a target, Defendants Does 1-50 and Warden Danny Samuel knowingly housed them together, violating CDCR classification protocols, in accordance with DOM § 62010.10, which calls for decisions to house together or separate inmates by risk factors.”

It continues, “Correctional staff were not immediately present. It is unknown why response was delayed, allowing full attack. This evidences deliberate indifference to foreseeable violence. Moreover, despite posted warnings within the CCI, force was not used to protect Peterson.”

Lanez was stabbed at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. He’s currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020.
