California Supreme Court denies Tory Lanez’s request to review conviction
Tory Lanez has been denied after requesting the California Supreme Court to review his shooting conviction.
The Canadian rapper was sentenced for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020 and is currently serving 10 years at California Men’s Colony near San Luis Obispo.
Lanez has maintained his innocence, recently making a request for his case to be reviewed. However, on February 25th, he was rejected
Legal reporter Meghann Cuniff, who has closely covered the case, wrote on X, “In what may be the most unsurprising ‘news’ ever reported, the California Supreme Court has rejected Tory Lanez’s request that they review his convictions and 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.”
Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence in 2022.
In December, he gave his first on-camera prison interview since his incarceration, where he continued to deny his charges.
“I’ve never been violent towards a woman. I would never hit a woman, let alone shoot a woman,” he said. “I believe not only that I was wrongfully convicted, but the amount of new evidence that has emerged since that trial, I think, has been overwhelming.”
He continued, “When I talk about my case, I don’t want it to be taken as me coming at her, because it’s not that. I’m just asking for somebody in the system to look at my case and look at the evidence and ask if this was fair.”
Lanez was stabbed 14 times behind bars last year, suffering seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face.
