Tory Lanez denied new evidence request in Megan Thee Stallion shooting case

Tory Lanez recently attempted to submit new evidence to challenge his felony conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. However, the court has denied the Canadian rapper.

The petitions reportedly involved Lanez’s driver not testifying, and another linked to a new statement from a security guard for Kelsey Harris.

In an X post from journalist Meghann Cuniff, she wrote, “The California Court of Appeals today rejected a big part of Tory Lanez’s appeal of his convictions and sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Both habeas petitions about alleged newly discovered evidence were denied.”

According to Cuniff, Lanez’s main appeal is still scheduled for an oral argument on August 18th in Los Angeles.

In 2022, Lanez was convicted of three felonies, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for the 2020 incident.

In July, Lanez’s father, Sonstar Peterson, claimed the rapper would be released early but refused to provide a date.

“I wouldn’t go on record giving a date right now,” he told Power 106 Los Angeles. “What I will say is that there are movements happening in the background. The powers that be can clearly see that this was a hatchet job. They can see, based on the evidence, or should I say lack of, everybody can see that.”

He added, “There are things happening right now. Like I said, I think it is much sooner than a lot of people would think. Much sooner than later. He’s coming home.”

Despite his incarceration, Lanez has continued to release music, including his Peterson album, which dropped in March.
