The Travis Scott beat ScHoolboy Q regrets giving away

Top Dawg Entertainment emcee and West Coast lyricist ScHoolboy Q recently admitted that he passed on a production that became a hit and fan favourite on another artist’s album.

During an appearance on the Back On Figg podcast, ScHoolboy Q (real name Quincy Hanley) revealed that the Grammy-award-winning producer Cardo had presented him with the beat of the 2015 Travis Scott track, ‘Goosebumps.’

Although ‘Goosebumps’ didn’t enter the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, it has since become a hip-hop classic. The track includes a guest verse from Hanley’s TDE counterpart Kendrick Lamar, and with two legends on the track, it is understandable why it is such a famous song within the culture.

During his discussion with the podcast’s primary hosts, T-Rell and Smacc, Hanley admitted that he has an extremely close relationship with the Minnesota producer and is one of the first MCs to receive beats from the beatmaker, stating, “Every Cardo beat you heard, I done had it. I had all these beats.”

Although the ‘Yeern 101’ rhymer heard the beat, he passed on it because it wasn’t working for him creatively. Explaining this, he unveiled, “[Cardo] named the beat ‘Goosebumps.’ And I kept trying to get on the record. I couldn’t come up with nothing. I guess he sent it to Travis.”

When asked if he regrets turning down what turned out to be a classic, Hanley revealed, “Every time me and Travis see each other we always laugh about it ’cause it’s like, ‘Bruh you just took the name of the beat and made that joint. I blew it!’ The beat was just called ‘Goosebumps.’ That’s one of my regrets, bro.”

ScHoolboy Q is undertaking a lot of interviews as he recently released a new project. Entitled Blue Lips, the 18-track body of work sees appearances from the likes of Freddie Gibbs, Ab-Soul and Rico Nasty, as well as production from The Alchemist, Cardo and DJ Khalil, to name a few.
