Rapper-turned-media mogul 50 Cent is one of the wealthiest hip-hop artists ever. Although he may not have the most amount of Grammys, he is undoubtedly one of the most successful MCs of all time, and his debut album Get Rich Or Die Tryin had a significant impact on the culture.
The Queens lyricist (real name Curtis Jackson) has made a lot of money over the years and has most likely attended many parties. However, in an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shephard and Monica Padman, Jackson disclosed he has a trick that stops him from getting too drunk.
50 Cent unveiled that when he released Get Rich Or Die Tryin in 2003, he was travelling around the world non-stop and had to attend parties at clubs and make sometimes make over five appearances in one night just to show his face as the hottest rap star in the world at that point.
As a producer and lead actor in the highly successful Power TV series, Jackson’s life is no longer as intense as it was in the early-2000s. However, he still has to attend launch parties and business events for all his different ventures, some of which take place in expensive bars and clubs. As such, from time to time, he still has to make use of an old trick he has to stop himself from getting too drunk.
Speaking with Dax Shephard and Monica Padman, Jackson revealed it is somewhat of an optical illusion, unveiling, “Sometimes I’ll finish a bottle of champagne. I’ll pour the bottle of champagne into people’s glasses and send the bottle back. And they’ll bring it out to me filled with ginger ale.”
The hardcore rapper, who was notorious for his gangster image, even admitted he’s not great with alcohol, disclosing, “This is because I’m such a lightweight drinker that I will drink a little bit, and I will be hit. I’ll be high as a motherf*cker… My tolerance is super low because I just never touched it.”
Jackson admitted that he partly does it because he has to maintain an image and make sure everyone around him is comfortable. He explained how he wants to keep everything enjoyable yet professional at the same time, detailing, “When I drink the bottle afterwards that I have them bring on the side it kept everyone partying and enjoying themselves the entire time.” You can watch 50 Cent talk about his low alcohol tolerance in the video below.
