The singer Snoop Dogg is “too nervous” to collaborate with
Snoop Dogg is a global superstar and he has performed in front thousands of people across the world. However, the rapper still gets nervous and on one occasion he was presented with the opportunity to meet and collaborate with a singer he admired so much, he got a little scared.
In a 2022 video released by hip-hop outlet TMZ, the ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ lyricist can be heard speaking to some of his friends in the studio about the time when he had the chance to meet renowned vocalist Sade.
Sade has been wowing audiences with her soft silky vocals since the 1980s and her sophomore studio album Promise, topped the charts worldwide, including the Billboard 200, where it stayed for two weeks consecutively.
The British singer is known for her amazing live performances. While talking to his friends, Snoop revealed that he attended one of her shows, recalling, “I went to her concert; I went to see her perform on time! I went with Heavy D and LL Cool J. She had all these visual effects where she disappeared, and she was at the top of the sky. She was [amazing].”
The Doggystyle creator then spoke about how he was offered the opportunity to meet her, stating, “They were like, ‘You wanna go meet her?’ I was like, ‘Uh uh,’ I was too nervous!”
Snoop humorously explained how he covered up his fear by claiming he wanted to leave because “there would be a lotta cars trying to get out” after the concert was over. During the chat, he recalled how much he loved Sade’s music growing up and disclosed that his favourite track by the vocalist was ‘Your Love is King’.
As a rapper, Snoop Dogg has a classic West Coast flavour in all his tracks, giving a laidback, chilled-out feel, much like Sade’s music. As such, he still hopes the pair can collaborate even though he is too scared to meet her. Speaking about a possible collaboration, he told his team, “[Let’s] put a bat signal in the air!”
Snoop Dogg isn’t the only rapper who’s keen to make a song with the British songstress. Miami legend Rick Ross also wants to get in the studio with the Stronger Than Pride creator. During a 2021 appearance on the daytime talk show The Real, Ross revealed that the vocalist is actually number one on his list, stating, “I always have [worked with big artists], but what would mean the most to the Boss is Rick Ross and Sade!”
In a GQ profile about his life and musical tastes, Ross declared Sade his “favourite R&B artist” and asserted that she has a “timeless” catalogue. However, the list of MCs admiring Sade is long.
Drake also has a deep love for Sade and strangely has two tattoos of the singer, and he counted her and his mother as “two very important ladies” in his life. Although she receives a lot of love from her fellow artists, Sade is a quiet figure in the industry, and unlike singers such as Beyonce and Rihanna, she doesn’t appear at many events or award ceremonies.
Despite the fact neither Snoop, Drake or Ross have managed to get the ‘Paradise’ artist in the studio if they ever did it would be an unforgettable affair, to say the least.
