The moment Soulja Boy almost lost his life

Since his breakout single, ‘Crank That,’ Soulja Boy has become one of the most despised rappers in hip-hop. The Atlanta artist is known as a brash, arrogant, and flashy character whose material does not match his ego. However, the emcee did have an undeniable impact on rap music.

Songs such as ‘Crank That,’ ‘Donk,’ and ‘Turn My Swag On’ revolutionised hip-hop with dance-orientated lyrics and simple beats that made his rap style particularly appealing to young children. That said, his music has earned him a lot of money, and with some of the extra cash, the emcee has, understandably, treated himself to a few luxuries, including cars.

However, on one occasion, the Atlanta lyricist nearly found himself in a massive car crash that would have likely proved fatal for the Loyalty creator. However, the close call wasn’t entirely of his own making.

Akin to most rappers who make it out of the hood, upon achieving vast amounts of success, Soulja Bou decided to move to California, more specifically, the expensive city of Malibu. However, in 2019 and early 2020, the Southern California region had seen some freak weather occurrences.

During 2019, the long summer and hot fall gave way to severe and unrelenting wildfires in and around LA County. The fires, which often lasted weeks at a time, scorched the land, and even on days without a roaring blaze, the sun’s heat dried out the earth, making it crumbly and unstable.

Although this was bad for the locals, the wildfires slowed down as winter began and in the New Year, while Soulja Boy was staying at his Malibu residence, the area was experiencing heavy rainfall. However, as buckets of rain fell on the powdery, fragile mud, it led to a series of problems — one the rhymer experienced himself.

One night, as Soulja Boy drove down the Pacific Coast Highway, a hillside collapsed under the weight of the rain. The flash flood and mudslide hit the section of highway that Soulja Boy was driving on. The road he was driving on was close to the ocean, and in a post on X (formerly Twitter), the emcee unveiled that after the incident, his car almost tipped into the waves with him inside.

On January 6th, Soulja told fans he was “involved in a very, very bad car accident last night due to a flash flood and mudslide.” He proceeded to recall the incident, posting, “My car got stuck too, almost went into the ocean. I still haven’t got my car back it’s stuck in the water in the middle of the mudslide/flood.”

The following day, the Atlanta native continued to update fans who were avidly asking about his well-being. Soulja Boy began, writing, “Thank God for another day, with new opportunities & blessings.” he even specified that he was physically injured, telling fans, “[I’m] just thankful to be alive. My face all swollen and s—t.”

Despite the loss, the ‘Crank Dat’ legend didn’t seem too bothered by the damaged car and was merely grateful that he was still alive.
