The MCs who convinced Funkmaster Flex to get liposuction

New York icon Funkmaster Flex (real name Aston Taylor) has been a commercial DJ on Hot 97.0 for over two decades and has made a lot of history during his tenure on the radio station.

Born and raised in the Bronx, the turntablist worked alongside Chuck Chillout at Kiss FM 98.7 during the early-1980s. However, during the late-’80s, when Taylor gained recognition as a club DJ, Joel Salkowitz of Hot 97.0 began broadcasting Flex’s club sets on the radio. Due to its immense popularity, Taylor was offered a show on the station in 1992 and has remained there to this day.

However, the DJ has changed a lot over the years and in 2020, he exposed himself to the entire culture by admitting on an Instagram Live stream to his 1.3 million followers that he got liposuction, a procedure mostly associated with females.

After getting mocked and chastised on social media, the DJ chose to address the procedure on the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast with Gillie Da Kid and Wallace Peeples. In fact, the DJ even explained that he was influenced by some other renowned artists who he claimed had also received the procedure.

Opening up about why he chose to share his decision to get liposuction, Flex explained, “I went public with it just because I thought everyone did — now, I can’t say I seen, but I can say, you know, I did, to my knowledge, Drake and Kanye and LL and people like that, that’s what they were doing.”

He continued, “When I called, and I got in touch with the guy who did it for me, I was recommended because current football players and current boxers go to him.” Taylor continued to insist it is secretly a common thing male celebrities are doing.

In his gagworthy video, the icon showed a tube on the right of his torso as yellow clumps of fat were extracted from his body and collected in a container next to him. He labelled the procedure as a way to fix his “trouble areas”.

Thanking the surgeons, Flex later took to Instagram with a photo captioned, “For a while now @40dayreset has been amazing in helping me lose 40lbs! @drwerfel thank u so much! Today I took a step I always wanted to try! @elitebodysculpture works on those hard areas… lower stomach, armpit sides and back fat! No anaesthesia, awake the entire time! I really enjoyed it!”
