The Game shares simmering new track 'Violence'

The Game has shared a new track titled ‘Violence’. Produced by Hit-Boy, the new offering is the first preview of the rapper’s much-anticipated tenth studio album Drillmatic – Mind Vs Heart, which is slated for release on July 8th via Prolific/eOne. The effort was originally intended for release on June 17th but had to be pushed back.

The Game teased ‘Violence’ last month during his appearance on Sway Calloway’s Sway In The Morning breakfast show. “I gotta hear that Game shit,” Sway told Hit-Boy, convincing the producer to give listeners a taste of the new album.

The new single centres on a low-slung bassline and chest-thumping beat. Amid soaring string lines, Games raps: “It’s like Hov in this motherfucker/ But it’s just me and Hit, we brought the stove in this motherfucker/ Cook somethin’ (Cook somethin’)/ Whoop you n***as ass like you went inside your mama’s purse and took somethin.’”

The second verse sees Game reference to Legendary NFL player John Madden and Dr. Dre’s era-defining debut album The Chronic: “I break down the chronic, then I smoke it like the exhaust/ Yeah, broke down The Chronic, and I made me a career/ I’m here, ain’t nobody sheddin’ a tear/ John Madden died but The Game still here/ Still holdin’ the stick/ Said John Madden died but The Game right here.”

The new album is the rapper’s first studio release since 2019’s Born 2 Rap, which he originally claimed would be his final album. He would go on to say that the only way he’d ever come out of retirement was if Jay-Z or Kanye approached him for a collab.

Elsewhere, The Game has declared himself a better rapper than Eminem, saying that he would be happy to go head to head against the Detroit legend in a Verzuz battle.“I used to think Eminem was better than me,” The Game told old N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN on the Drink Champs podcast: “He not. He not. He’s not,” the hosts replied. “Challenge it.”
