The “consistent” rapper Michael B Jordan declared the greatest of all time
Michael B Jordan is a rap fan, and he’s especially fond of Jay-Z. The recent Oscar-winner even appeared in one of Hov’s music videos once, but, even so, he can’t quite bring himself to declare Jay as his all-time favourite rapper. There’s one other who Jordan considers to be even better.
While he was promoting his film Creed III in 2023, Jordan appeared on Complex’s GOAT Talk series alongside his co-star Jonathon Majors. The pair were asked about the rapper they each felt was the greatest of all time, with Majors picking Jay-Z and 2Pac.
Jordan could at least agree with Jay-Z being up there, and, given that he had appeared in the music video for Jay and Beyoncé’s song ‘Family Feud,’ he had to at least mention Jay. But there was another rapper who he felt was a genuine challenger: Drake.
In the end, despite appearing in that music video for Jay, Jordan ultimately opted for Drizzy as his pick. “Fight me,” he said upon making the decision, seemingly acknowledging that it was a controversial choice.
Jordan seemed to struggle with the decision, repeatedly saying, “It’s tough, it’s tough, it’s tough.” But he felt he had to go for Drake because of his “consistency across genres.”
More than that, Jordan admitted that he found it easier to identify with the content of Drake’s verses. Drake, from Jordan’s perspective, is an artist who “raps about things that I’ve been through, situations that I can relate to the most, literally.”
Listening to Drake’s words, Jordan claimed that he often finds himself thinking, “I’ve thought that, I’ve been through that.” His music relates to Jordan “consistently,” and that’s why he considers him the greatest of all time.
Following Jordan’s Academy Award triumph last weekend, a photo of him and Drake resurfaced online. It showed Drake apparently mimicking holding a gun, in the middle of a story, with Jordan and someone else laughing along. It looks like they’re all getting along.
The famous pair have also been pictured together at a basketball game in the past, so, evidently, they’re at least friendly with each other. Perhaps that goes some way to explaining why Jordan identifies so much with Drake’s lyrics.
