The Alchemist names his dream collaboration
California producer The Alchemist has collaborated with some of the best hip-hop artists throughout his career. Notably, last year, he worked with Earl Sweatshirt on his album Voir Dire, and, in a recent podcast appearance, he revealed who he dreams of working with looking ahead to the future.
From Kendrick Lamar and Eminem to Freddie Gibbs and Vince Staples, The Alchemist is highly respected in the culture and renowned for his hard-hitting instrumentals. Nevertheless, the beatmaker is not content with his discography yet.
Although he has worked with the best of the new generation, the LA musician still wants to get into the studio with some of hip-hop’s GOATS from the older generation. Especially those who have broken records.
During a recent interview with the NFR podcast, The Alchemist sat down alongside Texas producer Cardo to discuss their careers and where they hope to go in the future. The California musician made it clear he really wanted to work with Jay-Z and would not stop until he got that collaboration.
Explaining his deep desire for a studio session with Jay, The Alchemist proclaimed, “Jay always been on my list! I been saying it for a hundred years. It’s Jay-Z. I would love to. We linked, but I keep the faith.”
The Alchemist made sure to let it be known that he has no ill will towards Jay-Z even though the Brooklyn legend has never accepted or embraced his music. He suggested that he has presented beats to Jay several times in the past but has always been rejected.
Explaining how he still has hope, The Alchemist detailed, “At this point, I hope it would be a mutual thing. Like I would want to work with somebody that would wanna work with me. There’s a couple that’s brewing that’s like bucket list sh*t for me that I hope happens. I still have hopes like that.”
The Alchemist indirectly worked with Jay-Z when, in 2020, Jay-Z appeared on Jay Electronica’s track ‘The Neverending Story’. However, The Alchemist wasn’t present and has never had the luxury of producing a Jay-Z single or album cut.
