Tay-K found guilty of killing man while fleeing another murder

Tay-K was sentenced to 55 years in prison in 2019 for his connection to a murder during a failed home invasion. Now, he’s been found guilty of another killing while fleeing the initial murder.

The Texas rapper (real name Taymor McIntyre) was found guilty of murder but not guilty of capital murder, which would have carried a mandatory life sentence. He’s facing an additional five to 99 years in prison.

In closing arguments last week, McIntyre’s attorney, John Hunter said, “Taymor McIntyre is not guilty of capital murder, murder, or manslaughter, and the reason for that is very simple. You have to do it right. You have to do the work. And this case clearly demonstrates the work wasn’t done.”

McIntyre cut off his ankle monitor ahead of a court hearing and went on the run in March 2017. According to Rolling Stone, an arrest warrant was issued in Bexar County, Texas. The document claimed he was part of a group that picked up photographer Mark Saldivar for a photo shoot, but he was robbed at gunpoint and fatally shot during the altercation.

Bexar County District Court Judge Stephanie Boyd will decide whether McIntyre will serve his sentence concurrently with the other case or whether he will serve the sentences consecutively.

Hunter told jurors to consider McIntyre’s age at the time of the crime, stating, “We’re not trying to paint this boy as a saint, and I’m not asking you to forgive him for what he did. I’m just asking you to keep it all in perspective.”

He continued, “As the prosecutor said in her closing arguments, that if Taymor treated (Saldivar) as a piece of trash, then the implication would be that you should treat (McIntyre) as a piece of trash – isn’t always the answer. Yes, the Bible talks about ‘an eye for an eye,’ but that’s the Old Testament and there is good news and it’s to turn the other cheek.”
