Police launch manhunt for Sydney rapper over killing
YC Ewzy is wanted on suspicion of murder. Police have issued a warrant for the Sydney rapper (real name Harley Johan) in relation to a shooting last year.
The incident took place at around 7:45pm on November 22nd, 2024. Emergency services responded to reports of a shooting at a petrol station on Cleveland Street in Surry Hills.
South Sydney Police Area Command discovered a man with gunshot wounds, who died at the scene of the crime.
According to the New South Wales Police Force, the victim was 31-year-old Niddal Acherkouk, who was unable to be saved by New South Wales Ambulance.
Shortly after the shooting, police were called to a car fire on Kensington Road in Kensington, which they believe is linked to the incident.
It’s understood that Acherkouk parked his car at the service station at around 6:40pm before eating at a local Turkish restaurant. When he went back to his car, he was ambushed by two shooters who covered their faces.
31-year-old Ewzy has been identified as a suspect, with strike force detectives applying for a warrant in September. He’s believed to be out of the country.
In a statement to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Police Superintendent Andrew Garner said, “This is an outrageous incident and demonstrated a high level of reckless indifference to the public who were around that area at that time.”
YC Ewzy is best known for his song ‘Jordan Freestyle’, with the music video boasting over 74,000 views on YouTube. Other videos, ‘Reckless’ and ‘Angel’, each have 34,000 and 23,000 views.
The video for ‘Reckless‘ depicts a targeted drive-by shooting, in which he raps, “I got some killers with me, baby, you don’t know/ I got some n*ggas talking reckless on the phone/ I got some hitters with me, baby, you don’t know.”
