Stormzy claims Banksy contacted him for the Glastonbury stab-proof vest

Banksy has cemented his reputation as the most elusive artist in the world, known for his satirical sociopolitical commentary and activism. That’s exactly why rapper Stormzy could not contain his excitement when the artist reached out to him for a collaboration.

During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Stormzy opened up about his interaction with the artist. The collaboration occurred during the 2019 edition of Glastonbury when Stormzy made history as the first Black solo British headliner.

Stormzy’s performance was elevated by his attire – a customised Union Jack stab-proof vest designed by none other than Banksy. The rapper claimed that he always becomes nervous when people ask about the vest: “Whenever people ask me about the vest, I’m like, ‘Who sent you here?'”

According to the rapper, Banksy approached him to ask him to wear the vest, and Stormzy jumped at the chance. While talking about their conversation, Stormzy said: “He literally found me and said, ‘I’ve made something for you if you want to wear it.'”

Naturally, Norton asked Stormzy whether he actually met the notorious artist, but the rapper remained ambiguous about this point. He claimed: “I can’t [say]… That’s why it felt like it was bestowed upon me.”
