Stevie J claims Sean ‘Diddy’ C was on drugs when he assaulted Cassie

Cassie sued her ex-partner Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs late last year, claiming that she suffered a “cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking” over the course of a decade, with an agreement to resolve the case announced just one day after the filing. In May 2024, footage surfaced of Diddy assaulting the singer in the hallway of a hotel; the video dates back to March 2016.

With Diddy currently incarcerated, Bad Boy producer Stevie J has opened up about a conversation he had with the mogul about the incident. The pair linked up in Miami and had an “emotional” discussion about how the footage would impact his family and friends.

Stevie J moved to open up the discussion about Combs as someone who knew him more closely than others. “It really threw me for a loop because, as I’ve always stated, I always think about and talk about things I know to be true about Sean Combs,” he said.

He continued: “After I saw the video, I went and saw him in Miami and we had a conversation and I let him know how affected I was by that. I didn’t know he had that in him to do that.”

The DJ and producer went on to share his disappointment, “My conversation with him was basically like, ‘Yo, you one of my heroes out here, you hurt me with that.’ It was pretty much a brotherhood that I’d rather not discuss, but it was a real emotional moment. He was hurt that that video came out, it crushed him, because he was like, ‘My daughters and mum gotta see this.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, your friends gotta see it too.’ So it really hurt him that the video came out.”

Stevie J claimed Diddy was on drugs at the time and going through a dark period in his life. “What he did on the video, he couldn’t believe that that was the darkest point in his life and he had to relive that and see that again, with his ex-girlfriend of ten years,” he said. “Who wants to see themselves beating on a girl in a video? I think that would hurt all of us, any man. I just know that he was in a dark place in his life that he described to me. He was doing a lot of drugs and it was just dark for him.”

Diddy issued an apology after the video appeared online, revealing how “disgusted” he was with himself both at the time and after seeing the footage. He claimed the incident led him to seeking help in the form of therapy and rehab.

“My behaviour on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” he said. “I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”
