Soulja Boy arrested on weapons charge in Los Angeles

Soulja Boy has been arrested on a weapons charge. The rapper (real name DeAndre Way) was taken into custody in Los Angeles on August 3rd following a traffic stop.

The Los Angeles Police Department reports that Soulja was a passenger in a car near Melrose Ave and Genesee Ave in Fairfax at 2:30am. Police found a gun inside the vehicle, but didn’t say why the car was stopped in the first place.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Soulja was booked on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked on a felony charge at 6:18am, and his representatives refused to comment on the incident.

That night, Soulja was celebrating his 35th birthday at the Poppy nightclub in Hollywood. Before his arrest, the rapper took to his Instagram Stories to share a video inside the club, writing, “I don’t need no security.”

In April, a judge found Soulja liable for claims he assaulted, sexually battered and harassed a woman in 2019 and 2020. He was forced to pay $4million in compensatory damages and $250,000 in punitive damages.

Following the decision, Soulja denied wrongdoing. “The district attorney never filed charges,” he said. “I was never charged or convicted of this, criminally. So, to be accused of this civilly is beyond me,” he said. “I’ve never done any of the things they’re accusing me of. I just feel like this is very unfair.”

He added, “I want to make it clear that I’m innocent. This case was never about justice. It was about money and personal gain, and I will not let that stand. I am committed to filing an appeal and fighting for the truth to be revealed.”
