Soulja Boy and Bow Wow diss each other ahead of Verzuz battle

Verzuz has quickly become the absolute go-to for entertainment over the past year and a half. Originally introduced as a way to get through the lack of formal shows that the COVID-19 pandemic forced on all of us, the virtual DJ battle was a playful, joyful, and sometimes combative head-to-head, knock-down, drag-out, one-on-one battle for artistic supremacy.

The Instagram live show originally kicked off with main hosts Swizz Beats and Timbaland swapping beats and stories as they kicked it for nearly five hours. Mostly focused on the production and songwriting of hip hop, Verzuz season one had plenty of memorable moments: Teddy Riley’s extreme overconfidence not matching his terrible Wi-Fi signal, Ludacris previewing a suggestive new song with Nelly, Erykah Badu proving that she is the eternal queen of neo-soul, RZA bragging about his prowess without even playing ‘Protect Ya Neck’, T-Pain and Lil Jon actually being the best of friends.

As the show continued, it got more conformable with expanding its format. A Juneteenth celebration with Alicia Keys and John Legend, a “Healing Episode” with Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond, D’Angelo’s mostly solo performance at the Apollo, and an amazing Masterclass with eternal legends Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle.

In anticipation for the upcoming battle between Soulja Boy and Bow Wow, each respective artist is fanning the publicity flames by engaging in their own form of trash talk before their episode.

When Bow Wow took to Twitter for a Q+A, Soulja Boy took the opportunity to ask “How you get so lame?” “I dunno I should ask you!” Bow Wow replied. “Have you seen your hairline lately?”

From there the barbs traded mostly revolved around reedings hairlines and trading pink slips for Lamborghinis. It’s all just god natured trolling, and is doing a number to increase the interest in the battle from two 2000s rappers who may not have had as much hype without some playful back and forth.

Their Verzuz battle doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but when it does happen, get ready for a hilarious war of words.
