Diddy's bodyguard casts doubt on Snoop Dogg's friendship with Biggie Smalls

Diddy’s former bodyguard Gene Deal has argued Snoop Dogg may have exaggerated the extent of his friendship with hip hop great Biggie Smalls. Deal’s comments came during an interview for The Art Of Dialogue, during which he questioned why Snoop’s supposedly tight friendship with Biggie and 2Pac wasn’t obvious to the public prior to either rapper’s death.

Talking about the West Coast rapper’s past accounts of friendship with the two icons, Deal said: “That’s something that sounds good for the media. You know, ‘I’m the peacemaker. I’m the one that’s showing love. I’m the one that’s out here when everybody else is dead, wishing that I coulda did something to put the shit together.'”

According to Deal, “It wasn’t all that love until ‘Pac was dead. Wasn’t Big out in California three, four weeks and Snoop never saw him? Snoop never came and smoked nothing wit’ him. Snoop never came and ate nothing with him. But it was a lot of love? Come on, man.”

Snoop Dogg has often spoken of his admiration for Biggie Smalls since the rapper’s death in 1997. Back in 2018, for example, Snoop recounted a moment they shared following Pac’s murder, during which Smalls revealed the impact of his friend’s death.

During an interview with Rap Radar, the Doggfather explained that the conversation took place shortly after a shooting on the set of Tha Dogg Pound’s video for ‘NY, NY’. While he felt Biggie was responsible for the incident, he never took action, fearing it would heighten East Coast/West Coast tensions.

Following Pac’s death, however, the two ran into each other in Atlanta: “It’s just me and him, one on one,” Snoop Dogg said. “And he giving me the rundown about how much he loved 2Pac and he didn’t wanna see cuz die. And a lot of shit that he said and did, he was wrong for. He just was apologising like a man, to me.”

When asked to corroborate the story, Gene Deal claimed Snoop wasn’t actually there. He went on to note that Snoop’s claim to have spent time with Smalls in another big city when the two rarely met in Los Angeles felt suspicious. “‘I can see you in Atlanta,’” Deal continued, “‘but I can’t see you in California in my own hometown?’ Huh? ‘I’m so gangsta, I can come to your hotel room by myself in Atlanta. But in California, I can’t come and see you?’ Alright.”
