Snoop Dogg recalls smoking weed around Paul McCartney: “That was crazy”
Snoop Dogg has revealed that he once met Paul McCartney and couldn’t believe the Beatle requested to spend time in his company. The Long Beach rapper, a hip-hop legend in his own right, crossed paths with the British musician at an event in Hollywood and had a memorable interaction.
“He wanted to meet me. Cuh, that was crazy!” he began the anecdote. “I was like, ‘I want to meet Paul McCartney.’ They was like, ‘Sir Paul would like to meet you.’ I’m like, ‘For real?’ Cuh, bring him over here!”
Snoop revealed that their conversation was about “respect and love” on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “He really knew who I was musically,” he said. “That blew my mind. Like, I’m telling him about all the records I like from him, but then he telling me about who I am and how he liked me. It’s just appreciation. I call that mutual love, fan appreciation.”
While he didn’t directly smoke weed with McCartney, he admitted he smoked “around” him. When asked if he thought McCartney would be open to smoking a blunt, he revealed actor Woody Harrelson interrupted them. “Well, Woody Harrelson came and just bogarted the whole situation, and then Paul was like, ‘I’ll catch up with you later,’” he recalled. “I’m like, ‘Damn, Woody. I was over here having a conversation.'”
Snoop previously opened up about them possibly meeting in Los Angeles last year. “I did a little concert for somebody in Hollywood,” he told Complex. “Paul McCartney was there. I never met him before, but I’m a fucking fan of The Beatles. I know Jimmy [Iovine] know him, I know Dre know him. I’m in the back smoking and they’re like, ‘Sir Paul would like to meet you.’ I’m like, ‘Oh for real? Hold on.’”
He continued, “I put the blunt out, cuz walk in the room like, ‘Don’t put that down!’ He give me a hug and he meet me and I’m like, ‘Fuck, Paul McCartney know who the fuck Snoop Dogg is!’ This is Paul McCartney, he knows who I am. That’s the experience I love, when the people you respect, respect you.”
After being arrested in 1984, McCartney revealed that he wanted marijuana to be decriminalised, claiming it was a lot less harmful than legal substances such as rum punch, whiskey, nicotine and glue.
“The charge yesterday, I was just caught with a small quantity of cannabis for which I was fined 200 Barbados dollars,” he told reporters. “I don’t hold any grudges, it didn’t really spoil my holiday. I don’t believe it’s a terribly harmful thing to do.” When asked if he would smoke weed again, he sarcastically said, “No, never again,” followed by a wink.
