Snoop Dogg reveals plans to release new gospel album

Although Snoop Dogg only released his Missionary album with Dr. Dre last year, the legend appears already ready to release another project. This time, the ‘Gin And Juice’ rhymer wants to venture into the gospel space.

The mogul recently revealed that his upcoming body of work has the working title Altar Call, which is not that surprising. In the 2000s, Snoop had a nine-volume mixtape series entitled Welcome to the Chuuch, with the last volume released in 2005.

Furthermore, he has previously revealed that he grew up in a highly religious household and was a choirboy at the local Baptist church before he became an emcee. As such, his decision to reconnect with his faith via a gospel album aged 53 years old is no shocking twist.

Still, many expected that with the new announcement, he wouldn’t be releasing the album in the near future, but that is not the case. In fact, it has been stated that Snoop plans to drop Altar Call in just over two weeks on April 27th.

The Doggystyle creator took to social media and, in an Instagram video, the emcee told followers, “April 27th, I’m dropping a gospel album on Death Row Records. It’s called Altar Call. You heard it first. A gospel album, April 27th. God is good. Won’t he do it?”

There have also been some leaks about potential features such as Jamie Foxx, Robert Glasper, Denaun Porter, Jazze Pha, Charlie Bereal, Jane Handcock and October London. Furthermore, there will be a lot of songs jammed onto the album with a 21-song tracklist.

The album is also special for Snoop Dogg as it is going to be dedicated to his late mother, Beverly Tate, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 70. Tate was in hospital for three months prior to her passing.

Her cause of death has remained private and will probably remain so unless Snoop decides to let the public know on Altar Call. Snoop had a performance in Boston the same day that she died and still turned up despite the deep sense of grief he was feeling, and he let the crowd know.
