Snoop Dogg reflects on his time as the East Coast's weed plug

Snoop Dogg is hip-hop’s marijuana maestro and as famous for his love of blunts as he is for his bars. It’s impossible to distinguish them apart, essentially, Snoop Dogg and weed go hand in hand with him the poster boy for cannabis.

That said, in an interview with Benny The Butcher on his YouTube channel GGN, the Long Beach emcee and Doggystyle legend admitted that he used to supply New York rappers with weed in the 1990s when the city was known for having low-quality buds.

After Benny The Butcher told Snoop about his own weed strain ‘Butcher’s Breath’, the ‘Gin & Juice’ lyricist unveiled, “You know what’s crazy. I’mma be honest. Hey guys, I’m just telling the truth. New York used to be known for trash. Used to be known for straight trash weed.”

He continued, “No, this is no joke, you can ask the rappers n***a they used to have seeds and all kind of sh*t in they sh*t they could be rolling up a blunt putting seeds and sticks you be like what the f*ck is you doing?”

However, Snoop Dogg revealed that New Yorkers didn’t know how bad their weed was until West Coast artists began to regularly perform and hang out in the city during the early 1990s.

Explaining this the Death Row owner (real name Calvin Broadus) continued, “Sh*t they didn’t know no better until n*gga start catching that flight, f*cking with the real n***as out here [West Coast] cuz we f*ck with y’all and n*gga show the n*ggas what that sh*t was and n*ggas said, ‘Well we can’t get it there, how about we just get it there,’ you dig—and the connection was connected and there you have it weed stories one-on-one.”

Snoop Dogg revealed that he supplied weed to various members of Wu-Tang Clan, Roc-A-Fella, and more. Broadus has a history of dealing weed and even supplied Cameron Diaz with weed.
