How many number-one singles has Snoop Dogg had?

Snoop Dogg has cemented himself as one of the greatest rappers ever, with an extensive music catalogue across 30 years. Whether it’s his early Doggystyle days or providing catchy hits with Pharrell, Snoop’s music has continued to evolve each decade.

Born on October 20th, 1971, in Long Beach, California, Snoop (real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.) got his nickname from his mother, who called him “Snoopy” due to his likeness and love of the character from Peanuts.

Snoop was raised baptist and got his first start in music by playing the piano and singing at Golgotha Trinity Baptist Church at a young age. His mother, who was a member of the church choir, got him into R&B music, before starting to rap in his pre-teen years.

“When I rapped in the hallways at school I would draw such a big crowd that the principal would think there was a fight going on,” he told The Los Angeles Times about his school days. “It made me begin to realise that I had a gift. I could tell that my raps interested people and that made me interested in myself.”

Snoop appeared on a record release in 1992 with his guest spot on Dr Dre’s ‘Deep Cover’ from the movie of the same name. The song was also Dre’s debut solo single following the dissolution of N.W.A.

Snoop went on to feature heavily across Dre’s The Chronic album in 1992 on classics such as ‘Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang’ and ‘Fuck wit Dre Day (And Everybody’s Celebratin’)’. His debut album, Doggystyle, was then released in 1993, and it included memorable tracks such as ‘Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)’ and ‘Gin and Juice’.

The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and his next two albums, Tha Doggfather and Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told, also topped the charts. Between ‘Still a G Thang’ in the ’90s, ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Sensual Seduction’ in the 2000s, and ‘Young, Wild & Free’ in the 2010s, Snoop has proven himself as a superstar time and time again.

He’s remained in the spotlight as a rapper, reinventing himself as Snoop Lion and Snoopzilla, and as an actor while also embracing his celebrity status with appearances on shows such as The Voice.

So, how many number-one singles has Snoop Dogg had?

Surprisingly, Snoop only has one number-one single of his own throughout his entire career. It finally came in 2004 when Pharrell provided him with the ammunition for ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot‘, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks.

Elsewhere, Snoop has earned two other number-one singles courtesy of features. The second came in 2006 through Akon’s ‘I Wanna Love You’, originally titled ‘I Wanna Fuck You’, which was also nominated ‘Best Rap/Sung Collaboration’ at the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008.

His third number-one single was secured in 2010 with Katy Perry’s ‘California Gurls’, topping the Hot 100 for six consecutive weeks and serving as an answer song to Jay-Z’s and Alicia Keys’ New York City anthem, ‘Empire State of Mind’.
