Snoop Dogg apologises for homophobic comments

Snoop Dogg recently received backlash for homophobic comments relating to the Disney movie, Lightyear. Now, the Long Beach rapper has responded to the criticism.

During his appearance on the It’s Giving podcast last month, Snoop said he was “scared to go to the movies” after seeing a same-sex couple in the 2022 film. He said this was due to not knowing how to answer his grandson’s questions about homosexual relationships.

Snoop took to the comments of an Instagram post by Hollywood Unlocked over the weekend to issue an apology.

“I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons,” he wrote. “All my gay friends [know] what’s up they been calling me with love. My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6 yr old … teach me how to learn I’m not perfect.”

In the Toy Story spinoff, Buzz Lightyear’s best friend, Alisha Hawthorne, is shown marrying and having a child with Kiko.

“They’re like, ‘She had a baby, with another woman,’” Snoop recalled on the podcast. “Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”

While watching the movie, he thought, “Oh shit, I didn’t come in for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie. They just said, she and she had a baby, they’re both women. How does she have a baby?”

Snoop admitted the situation “fucked” him up. “I’m like, scared to go to the movies,” he said. “Y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for. It threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’ These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
