Skepta has brought a bit of Latin to Tottenham on his new single ‘Nirvana’, which sees him link up with J Balvin.
The Boy Better Know rapper’s new track features on his EP, All In, also featuring Kid Cudi and Teezee. Earlier this year, Skeppy worked his fans into a frenzy when he hinted that he was retiring, but the King of North London is here to stay.
Skep fuelled the retirement speculation earlier this year when he posted a cryptic message about his appearance on Jae5’s song, ‘Dimension’. He told fans: “This Jae5 song/video featuring REMA and myself was recorded and shot last year in Ghana. I have one more song with Bando & L’s that we also recorded in 2020 – after we drop that I’m out.”
Last week, Skepta backtracked and revealed details of his new EP, All In. “I could never quit music,” he told fans on a recent IG Live. “I don’t know who’s pushing that narrative, pushing that agenda that Skeppy is stopping music and all that. How? I am music.”
He added: “I’m going to let Dave’s album come out this week then I’m going to drop it the week after.”
Unlike Kanye, Skepta has stayed true to his word and released his EP when he said he would. ‘Nirvana’ sees him continue to expand on his sound rather than stick to his grime roots and embrace hip-hop cultures from around the world.
Over the last few years, he has been evolving, and ‘Nirvana’ will help endear Skepta further to the international audiences that the rapper has been unapologetically reaching for.
