Sheff G sentenced to five years in prison on attempted murder charges
Sheff G will spend the next five years behind bars. The Brooklyn drill rapper turned himself in on October 1st after pleading guilty to attempted murder in March.
The 27-year-old (real name Michael Williams) was sentenced to five years in prison and five years of post-release supervision at the Brooklyn Supreme Court.
As part of his plea deal earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree attempted murder and one count of second-degree conspiracy.
District Attorney Gonzalez said, “This defendant had talent and opportunity, but chose to use them to fuel violence instead of building a better future. Together with the NYPD, we have driven gun violence in Brooklyn to record lows by focusing on dangerous individuals, like Mr Williams and his cohorts.”
He added, “I can only hope that this measure of accountability will lead him to taking a different path and using his influence in a positive manner.”
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, Sheff was a leading member of the 8 Trey Crips and the 9 Ways gangs. Their crimes included shootings, gun possession, and using stolen cars to shoot at rivals.
Sheff was accused of being part of a conspiracy to murder in the death of 23-year-old Theodore Senior. He allegedly sent text messages confirming his gang had scored against their rival, which included a photo of the victim and a news article about the incident.
Just days later, he was accused of hosting a dinner at a Manhattan steakhouse to celebrate Senior’s death and injuries to five others.
As well as that, Sheff allegedly used his music career earnings to offer money and jewellery for acts of violence. He was also accused of coordinating a group of three shooters, driving them and acting as a getaway driver.
