Sean Kingston begs for no prison time in wire fraud case
Sean Kingston will be sentenced on August 15th on wire fraud charges. In a new court filing, the ‘Beautiful Girls’ singer requests no prison time ahead of the sentencing.
Alongside his mother, Janice Turner, the duo allegedly “enriched themselves by falsely representing that they had executed bank wire or other monetary payment” on purchases but never sent the money, stealing around $1million worth of property.
Guidelines suggest a five to six-year sentence, but his lawyers believe it should be closer to 24 to 30 months. They’re also asking to scrap a prison sentence altogether due to the offence being non-violent and how much he supports his family.
According to Rolling Stone, Kingston (real name Kisean Anderson) wants “home confinement or house arrest” and an order that he repay his victims.
“Mr Anderson is deeply remorseful for his conduct and involvement in this scheme and has had time to step back and reflect on his actions and how to make amends,” the filing reads. “Mr Anderson accepted responsibility in this case and has made all the positive steps toward learning and growing from this situation.”
They say home detention “will adequately punish Mr Anderson for his offence conduct while providing him the opportunity to care for his family and pay down the restitution amount.” Since his arrest, they say he has “has worked diligently at his home studio” and will be “productive” outside of prison.
Kingston’s mother was sentenced to five years in July after sentencing guidelines suggested 63 to 78 months. Following the verdict, she said, “I’m sorry. My intention was to keep my son afloat in this difficult industry. They used him and abused him. I am begging for mercy for me and my son.”
