Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs asks for conviction to be overturned in court hearing
Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs appeared in court on September 25th ahead of his sentencing. During the hearing, the rapper asked for his conviction to be overturned.
Combs was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3rd.
He’s facing a maximum of 20 years behind bars, with each charge carrying a potential 10 years. However, the probation department is recommending no more than seven and a quarter years.
The Bad Boy boss has asked for a 14-year sentence, which would see him released from prison this year due to time served following his September 2024 arrest.
In New York federal court this week, Combs’ lawyer, Alexandra Shapiro, painted him as a voyeur who enjoyed producing and watching amateur porn, according to the BBC.
Regarding the Mann Act charges of transporting people for prostitution, his team said that Combs had “no commercial motive” and that prosecutors “have lost all perspective” by pushing for an enhanced sentence that is “wildly out of proportion.”
Judge Arun Subramanian didn’t immediately rule on the request to reverse his conviction or grant a new trial.
In a filing earlier this week, his lawyers wrote, “For decades, Mr Combs struggled with serious substance abuse issues, anger and anxiety, and other flaws that he did not properly or professionally address until his incarceration last year.”
They added, “Like every addict, his behaviour while on painkillers was erratic and unpredictable, and often the reason behind any assaults discussed at the trial.”
