Sean 'Diddy' Combs officially changes his name

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs changes his name about as often as the rest of us get a haircut, and now the legendary rapper has given his alias another tweak.

Diddy has legally changed his middle name from ‘John’ to ‘Love’, which he confirmed to fans in an Instagram post. Over the last few years, the rapper has been informing fans to refer to him as ‘Love’, but now he’s decided to make the name legally binding.

“Look what I just got in the mail today,” he wrote in the caption alongside his new and updated Florida identification card. Combs also wrote, “It’s official! Welcome to the Love era,” he added.

The rapper first introduced the moniker back in 2017, when he posted on social media: “I decided to change my name again! My new name is LOVE aka Brother Love.”

He then shared a video message detailing his reasoning behind the decision, stating: “Hey what’s up y’all? I have some very, very serious news. I’ve been praying on this, and I decided — I know it’s risky, it could come off as corny to some people, like yo — I decided to change my name again.”

For some reason, Diddy then decided to walk back on the name change, adding: “Well, ladies and gentlemen, today I’ve come to the conclusion that you cannot play around with the internet. Due to overwhelming response from the media out there and just due there not wanting there to be any confusion, I was only joking. OK? I didn’t change my name. It’s just part of one of my alter egos.”

The iconic rapper officially filed to change his middle name in 2019, and now it’s finally been approved, with Diddy completely free to live, laugh, love on his own terms with his new name.
