Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyers to appeal prison sentence
Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs was sentenced to over four years in prison on October 3rd. However, his lawyers are planning to appeal the decision.
Judge Arun Subramanian handed Combs a 50-month sentence after being found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July. He was also fined $500,000.
Shortly after the sentencing, the rapper’s legal team announced their intention to appeal “in the coming days.”
Marc Agnifilo told the New York Post, “Both the guidelines calculation and the sentence took account of conduct for which Mr Combs was acquitted by a jury. We contend this amounts to legal error.”
Combs and his lawyers had requested no more than a 14-month sentence, which would have resulted in his prison release this year, based on time served.
On the other hand, prosecutors pushed for 11 years and three months. The judge initially indicated a six-to-seven-year sentence, but settled on four years and two months.
Combs said in court, “I can’t change the past, but I can change the future. I ask your honour for mercy. I beg your honour for mercy.”
He continued, “I ask your honour for a chance to be a father again, a son again, a leader in my community again. For a chance to get the help that I desperately need to be a better person because I don’t want to let God down, I don’t want to let my family down.”
Combs has been behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center since September 2024. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
