Sauce Walka hospitalised after being shot in Memphis
Houston rapper Sauce Walka was shot in Memphis on March 22nd. The 34-year-old (real name Albert Mondane) suffered injuries in an incident that resulted in one person being killed.
The shooting took place at around 2:42pm outside of a hotel near Lt. George W. Lee Avenue and Second Street in the downtown area. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other, Walka, was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
According to TMZ, Walka is expected to survive the incident, which involved multiple people pulling up in a white vehicle and firing bullets at Walka, who was shot in the leg, and another man, who lost his life. A suspect vehicle has been identified, and police are moving to make an arrest.
Speaking on the fatal incident, a Memphis Police Department spokesperson said, “This appears to be a targeted shooting incident. The victims were outside by a vehicle. The suspect vehicle pulled up. Multiple people got out of that vehicle, fired shots without engaging in any conversation, they got back into the white vehicle and fled.”
Police claimed the attack was an isolated incident and assured the local community that there was no reason to be concerned for their safety.
“We want to assure our community and visitors that downtown Memphis is a safe place,” they wrote. “This incident was not a random act of violence. Early indications are that the victims and suspects are known to each other.
“We understand the public’s concern and reiterate that this was not a random act. MPD is committed to bringing those responsible to justice and will be utilising downtown camera footage and other technology available to aid in identifying everyone involved.”
Walka has over 1.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with his biggest song, ‘Texas Cyclone’, accumulating 40 million streams. He released his last solo project, Saucefather 2, in June 2024.
