San Francisco rapper’s sexual assault trial vacated during jury selection

San Francisco rapper Sky Balla has had his sexual assault trial vacated during jury selection.

The Bay Area musician was charged with two counts of sexual assault resulting in substantial bodily harm, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of battery by strangulation.

According to 8 News Now, Clark County District Judge Bita Yeager will decide whether the indictment will be dismissed or another trial will be scheduled.

Last month, Balla’s lawyer, Robert Draskovich, claimed that the alleged victim’s “story changed and evolved in critical ways leading up to her grand jury testimony.”

Balla was arrested in 2021 for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at a Las Vegas Strip hotel.

The woman claimed he ordered shots of tequila and that she proceeded to black out. From there, she says he was violent and sexually assaulted her in a room at the Aria Resort and Casino.

In 2021, Balla posted $1 million bail from the Clark County Detention Center and was placed on electronic monitoring.

Appealing the conditions of his release, a motion recently read, “Mr Branklyn is asking the court to allow him to return to California and be able to run his businesses since he has been unable to since 2021. It is detrimental to Mr Branklyn’s case if he is not able to run his business to make a living so he can continue to defend his case.”

Five years ago, KTNV reported that Balla had previously been convicted of sexual assault in California and was required to register as a sex offender.

His biggest song, ‘If Ya Lucky’, has over 275,000 streams on Spotify, with ‘M.O.B.’ also racking up 150,000 streams.
