RZA sues Wu-Tang Clan bootleggers over trademark infringement

RZA has filed a lawsuit against Wu-Tang Clan bootleggers over a trademark infringement.

Complex have confirmed the Wu-Tang man has put a case forward against stores selling items of merchandise featuring the group’s logo, which is counterfeit.

He has said the bootleggers are “[deceiving] unknowing consumers by using the Wu-Tang Clan Trademarks without authorisation”, which he says is misleading fans, and making them believe they are purchasing genuine goods.

The filing continues, “Other e-commerce stores operating under the Seller Aliases omit using the Wu-Tang Clan Trademarks in the item title to evade enforcement efforts while using strategic item titles and descriptions that will trigger their listings when consumers are searching for Wu-Tang Clan products.”

RZA hopes the legal documentation will stop the sale of unauthorised merchandise by bootleggers. He has also pleaded with online marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and AliExpress to stop listing the items.

Meanwhile, he also wants to receive the profits from the sales of the illegal garments, or a flat fee of $2million for “each and every use” of the Wu-Tang trademarks.

The rapper has history on this front, and he previously filed a suit against the dog-walking company, Woof Tang Clan, in 2017 over copyright concerns.
