Rod Wave arrested on weapons and drug charges after Grammy nomination
Rod Wave was arrested in Atlanta last week, on the same day he was nominated for a Grammy. The Florida rapper/singer was detained on weapons and drug charges.
The 30-year-old (real name Rodarius Green) was taken into custody in Fulton County, Georgia, on November 7th, shortly after being nominated for ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media’ at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
According to TMZ, he was charged with possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, reckless driving, possession of a Schedule V controlled substance, and possession of Schedule II controlled substance.
Rod was released on November 8th on an $8,000 bond. Following the arrest, his lawyer, Drew Findling, called out Atlanta police officers.
“On November 7, the same day Rodarius Green earned a Grammy nomination, he was unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested in Atlanta,” he said. “The arresting officer belongs to the Atlanta Police Department’s controversial Crime Suppression Unit – a group known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety.”
He continued, “Mr Green was targeted as part of this quota-driven approach, a practice that undermines justice and erodes community trust. We look forward to vigorously challenging this baseless arrest and the clear violations of Mr. Green’s rights in court.”
The rapper received his Grammy nomination for the song ‘Sinners’, which appeared in the Ryan Coogler-directed movie, Sinners.
‘Sinners’ has over 25 million streams on Spotify, with the music video also racking up 11 million views on YouTube.
The film, Sinners, grossed $367 million at the box office, starring Michael B Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, and others.
