Rihanna discusses Super Bowl, new music and her son

Rihanna has said that the fact that she will play the halftime Super Bowl show next year does not necessarily mean that she will also release an album of new music at the same time. A journalist had recently suggested that Rihanna “obviously” would not have agreed to the halftime show if new music would not be forthcoming.

The journalist (from Associated Press) had spoken to Rihanna at the Savage x Fenty Vol. 4 fashion show. Rihanna replied, “No, no, no. That’s not true. Super Bowl is one thing. New music is another thing. Do you hear that, fans? Because I knew, the second that I announced this, I said, ‘Oh my God, they’re gonna think my album is coming; I need to get to work.'”

However, despite these comments, Rihanna seemingly conflicts with them by saying that she does have something new in the works. She added, “But I do have new music coming out. But we’ll see. We’ll see. [They are] unrelated. But a special project.”

In addition to this, the pop icon said that now was as good a time as any to headline the coveted slot at the Super Bowl: “It was a challenge that I welcomed. It was a stage bigger than anything I’ve ever done. [The Super Bowl is] one of those things, if I’m going to leave my baby, I’m going to leave my baby for something special. And I was willing to do it. It was now or never for me, I feel like.” Rihanna’s son was born in May earlier this year.

She added, “Nothing would have gotten me out of the house if it wasn’t a challenge like that. You could get really comfortable being at home as a mom, [so this is] challenging myself to do something that I’ve never done before in my career. I have to live up to that challenge.”
