Canadian superstar Drake is one of the most decorated MCs of all time. With his considerable wealth and a catalogue of hits reflecting his emotional struggles and heartbreak, it’s clear that he’s been seeking stability and a sense of settling down since he first rose to prominence in the late 2000s.

The Scorpion creator has been rapping about women and relationships since his first debuted. Despite his apparent struggle to maintain a relationship behind closed doors, Drake has proposed to several women—42 times, to be exact.

However, Drizzy has a somewhat bizarre coping mechanism. After every rejection, he buys a flashy new diamond jewellery. The OVO founder has entered various relationships since his debut album, Thank Me Later. He has been involved with Canadian singer and TV host Keshia Chanté and the renowned model Catya Washington.

Over the years, it has been reported that Drake has asked for many of his exes’ hands in marriage. However, Drake has never publicly announced a marriage and never openly had a fiancée.

However, there have also been many times when the lyricist was too scared to get on one knee. These moments he regrets deeply. That said, after multiple failures due to fear, Drake approached his jeweller and asked for a chain with a certain number of ring-sized diamonds, each one representative of a time he failed to show bravery by proposing.

Drake called upon the renowned New York City jeweller Alex Moss for this special chain to show all his missed proposal opportunities. Moss had created jewellery pieces for Drizzy before, and the chain was advertised online.

Moss posted an Instagram photo showing his followers the chain, captioning the photo, “New piece titled ‘Previous Engagements’ for all the times he thought about it but never did it. 42 engagement rings, 351.38 carats in diamonds. By Alex Moss New York & Drake.”

Neither Drake nor Moss have disclosed how much the piece costs. According to Esquire magazine’s estimate, if the chain has 42 stones totalling 351 carats, it would place each diamond at around 8 carats. The cost of one diamond was estimated to be approximately $160,000. According to the magazine’s calculations, the piece was around $6.7million, with the white gold and custom fees likely putting it over $7m.

Although this is one of Drake’s stranger pieces, it is not his only chain and most definitely not his only creation from Alex Moss. The Toronto native was a frequent customer of Moss, and he ordered more jewellery following his engagement chain in 2022.

In August 2022, he got a custom ring fitted with diamonds and a custom-made owl ring that February to replicate the owl in his OVO (October’s Very Own) record label logo. Moss has shared photos of the two together on Instagram over the years. However, nothing has gone as viral as the strange proposal diamond chain did.
