Rapper who was stabbed 20 times released from jail and deported to Jamaica

Popular UK rapper Marnz Malone, who was stabbed 20 times in 2021, has been released from prison and deported to Jamaica.

The 26-year-old (real name Kimani Shaw) was found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and sentenced to 11 years behind bars.

Upon his early release, Malone will return to his birthplace. He was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, and moved to Newtown, Birmingham at six years old after his father died.

According to the Metro, Malone pointed a pistol at rival gang members but didn’t fire any bullets before being stabbed 20 times in an underpass.

The rapper was in intensive care when associates allegedly killed a man named Dante Mullings in a drive-by shooting.

Police claimed it was a revenge attack, which took place the day after the stabbing. Four other men were sent to jail over the murder.

Malone, also known as Double M, has over 330,000 monthly Spotify listeners. His biggest song, ‘Ball 4 U’, has over nine million streams.

Other big tracks include ‘Cold Hearted World 3’ with five million streams and ‘Pandora’s Box’, which has four million streams. He released his latest album, Sabr, in February.

During an interview with The Guardian in January, Malone said, “I feel like I’ve got a responsibility to show people what’s really going on in here. It’s easy to look at my scenario and think that prison is nice. Or that we’re glamourising it. But this is not a nice place.”

He added, “It’s bittersweet. Being in jail means I can take it in, I have time to think. In here, I’m no different to anyone else, which keeps me grounded. I could have £20 million in my bank, but I can still only spend £20 a week.”
