Rapper dodges life sentence after murder case ends in mistrial

The murder trial of Houston rapper OMB Bloodbath ended in a mistrial earlier this week.

The 32-year-old (real name Alexandra Nicks) was facing a potential life sentence, but dodged a conviction on January 27th.

According to the Houston Chronicle, a jury deadlocked after two days of deliberations at the end of a two-week trial. She remains in custody.

Bloodbath was indicted on murder in aid of racketeering charges in 2023, along with Shaquile Richards.

They’re accused of ordering members of 100% Third Ward Gang to shoot at a rival gang member, resulting in the death of Sam Johnson, an innocent bystander. Three of the gunmen have already been found guilty of murder.

Bloodbath opened up about her life experiences during an interview with XXL in 2020, revealing she had been shot in the head and spent time in prison.

“I’m blessed and highly favoured, but I done been through so much,” she said. “I done got shot in the head, shot in the back, was paralysed for a month. I done been to prison for two years. I’m from one of the most treacherous hoods in Houston, and I survived all this. I’ve been wanting the same dream since I was little, and now it’s unfolding.”

She added, “I really feel like it’s me. If it wasn’t me, I would have been gone a long time ago, or just gave up a long time ago. You got to believe in order to get it. You can’t doubt yourself. So I know it’s going to happen. I’m just waiting for the rest of the world to catch on.”

Bloodbath’s biggest song, ‘For Me’, has over 24 million Spotify streams. Her most-viewed music video, ‘Dropout’ featuring Maxo Kream, has over three million views on YouTube.
